Here is a guide on transformations. Everyone falls into one of these categories. Please specify which one your character falls into in your biography.

Fast shift: Some lucky few get the ease of transforming on a silver platter. They can shift within a split second and it's generally easy and painless. This is generally small mammals and some felines.

Slow shift: The majority of shifters fall under this category. The transformation is generally easy and painless but it takes ten to twenty seconds before it's complete. This is mostly those that shift into large carnivores with some exceptions.

Painful shift: Some struggle with shifting their whole lives. The transformation can be quite painful but is usually faster than slow shifters, the average time being five to ten seconds. This can really affect anyone but especially basalisks and those in ursus.
